here are some ideas: i find that a pond is imperious on every garden. You can actually do it around the taxodium and turn the tree in a weeping style. A cascade can be done aswell providing fresh water for the tree.Iris'es and other water loving plants should be near the pond.A ponton is another nice accesory. Since you've chosen the BC as the center piece then i think that it's logical that the garden should somewhat resemble the natural habitat.here are some sites of japanese gardening

"I have collected many a tree. Now maybe it was time to put one back. Haven't ever done that before. Don't think that many others would be silly enough to do it ;o) "

Ron, A great start !!

I for one am happy to say that every year I buy bundles of saplings from the county extension office, varietys of different things. I call them and the forestry service and ask if there are any areas that require transplants, or needs for these types of trees and volunteer to plant. Many years they take them, wayside rests, reforestation etc.

I also plant many of my collected materials into the garden, perhaps for future use, perhaps not. But mainly I try to replace what I take out in the wild. Most often, the forestry people are just happy that I ask permission and pay for the permits....which I happily oblige.

Good luck with that garden, I am just getting to the planning stages myself.

Paul

Cool

heyRon; I don't mean to sound too critical and I know you have given this project a lot of thought, but maybe that cypress should be about 3 feet to the right and rotated 27.5 degrees CCW. Just kidding, but to be on the serious side a 75 x 75 landscaping job is a major undertaking,as you know. From my experience, specially with regard to re-doing things 2 or 3 times, It is wise to have a plan on paper so that you can prepare for the pond, meandering creek, teahouse, large boulders, electrcal lines, bamboo fences, and those interesting elevation changes. Of course the plan is only a guideline but it may save some headaches and backaches. I hope I don't come off as being a smart-ass or cheeky (always wondered what cheeky was), I just want to see your finished work turn out as well as you bonsai. Regards, heyMikey!! Oh yeah, I almost forgot the virtual I did for your project.

Are you planning on treating your tree in the ground as one in a pot? or are you letting it grow?

Sanity )
I will style it in the ground just as if it was a bonsai. A bit bigger of course
