Bonsai Doer
|
Bonsai Artist, Stand Builder, Soil Maker Turns Promoter.
I have had a few requests about the shohin show that I said I was doing here in my home town. I have never been the organizer, promoter of my own personel show. I have helped with the club shows, but I wanted something special. I decided that the only way to get what I wanted was to organize my own show.
I am providing all the hardware for the show. Tables, advertisements, table covering etc. I am providing ten tables for the first annual show. I want to see what we get this first time around. My goal is to have a show that rivals some of the things they do in Europe. Of course I have to start small. I have white table covers, with a royal blue 20" stripe to go down the center of the tables. The individual trees or displays will be seperated by bamboo dividers. Three pieces of bamboo 20" long make up each divider. They are held together with wire. Each displayer will have half of an 8 foot table or 4 feet to make his or her statement in. The only thing I lack is backdrops. But when I get to the point of moving this show to Selland Arena, which I hope to do within 5 to 7 years, I should have backdrops built. Lord knows I have built dozens for the clubs! I have no demonstrator scheduled on the posters, but will ask if anyone is interested. There are a couple people I have in mind. If they come, it will be a bonus, if they back out it will look bad if on the bill. Thanks to all that asked, Bonsai-al Hope to see some of you there. It is a great nursery too...

Good luck with the show. Pity we live on opposite coasts it sounds like one that I would enjoy attending.
One suggestion on your ad. A simple thing that a lot of people overlook. Put the name of the city where it will be held on the flyer. This might seem a bit silly for a local show but it is a bit of important information. Especially for those that might live in the next town over. They might attend if they knew it was close by. |

Thanks Ron, I too noticed that I after I posted the thing. At the present, it is only being seen at the nursery. I figure that if you are at the nursery, you would know where Nee Hai Bonsai Nursery is. This guy is getting pretty famous here in Fresno, due to being the only nursery around carrying bonsai starter stock for hundreds of miles. Thanks, Al

Holy smokes, Al! That's a great idea. I'm really impressed, and I sure wish I could be there to see the show. I particularly like the idea of doing a shohin show, instead just relegating to some side table as is all too often done.
You'll take a bunch of pictures for us? (If not, I know your phone number )All the best, Carl

That's cool. A whole show dedicated to shohin size trees. Everybody likes large trees, and I do too but I think this size or just a bit larger is much more practical for the average bonsai grower.

Al's shohin show
I think that Al's idea is wonderful, I find it humerous that the only two people signed up to date are Itchy and Scratchy. This looks to be a wonderful day and I am looking forward to it.

WOW, Al!
All the best on the show. I was out in Sacramento last week visiting my daughter and thought about getting down to Fresno but there wasn't enough time. Actually we were packing her up to move back to Kansas. Oh how I wish I could see the show. We have nothing like that here. Our club is getting ready for a booth in the big Lawn, Flower and Garden Show in Wichita next week. It will be a first for all of us. It's exciting. I hope everything goes well for both of us.

Bad date for me and I really would have come from San Jose to see your show. I'll be out of town on that date. In lieu of the shohin show, can you take time to cite some references that I could read specific to shohin development. (Articles or websites good too!) I'm really interested in having some in my ever growing collection. I can't seem to find alot of info other than your postings. Most of my trees right now are medium sized. Thanks, Al, love your work, postings and guidance P.S. Maybe we could have a field trip before or after GSBF show in October?
