I have excellent advice for a black pine lover... use the search function from the above menu and type in "black pine". You will find a vast quantity of information.

Happy searching!

It might be equally as helpful to discuss WHY something works. Any ideas what the lime is doing for your pines? What deficiency is being met??

i just finished reading the book Pines from Bonsai Today Masters Series and there's some really good information in there. As for real world experience, i have only tried to grow pine from seed once and out of 8 seeds i got 1 to actually grow. It was good until about 2-3 inches and then the little guy passed on. BUT after reading that, i think i know what i did wrong. Just my 2 cents...

If you promise not to tell anyone I will give up one secret...

Water. Lots of it and frequently. Must use fast draining soil.

Thanks for the links but you missed the point !!

Thanks for the links but you missed the point !!...

I was asking people if they did anything obscure to promote the growth of their pines that isn't normally done...i.e you have the collander method....I know of a guy that puts heaps of dolomite lime on once a year etc etc.. is there anything else that you would not generally tell people about because your pines are doing extremely well and you want your pines to stand out above the rest sort of thing!!

People have their little obsessive things they do to promte groth and better trees ...these are the type of things I am asking about.

Some of us did not miss the point.

Water often and use fast draining soil. I water three times a day in summer and 2 in other seasons. The more often you water the more often the action of the drainage pulls fresh oxygen in to the soil and to the roots. Every plant I know needs oxygen - no? Now add a very very heavy feeding routine based on more than one type of food on a rotating schedule to the watering and the coarse soil.

But I suppose this is what you currently do...
