after reading a thread by Fred L, i feel compelled to change the description of my garden. i may have, as most people who are ignorant of the eastern cultures, taken a few small parts and considered it the whole. that being said, i am building a rather large garden area in my yard that will draw some influence from the japanese style gardens.

next is a pic that shows most of the garden. you can see the bonsai house in the background. i plan on building the waterfall soon as well. you can also somewhat see a footbridge that i built that spans across where the pond and sand garden abut each other. and along the shed i am building an eight foot tall wall of lattice work to grow morning glories up to cover the shed (which belongs to my neighbor), the flowers and vines have already taken over most of what is up now.

and this is the true garden area. there are three raised gardens, 10ft. x. 5 foot, the first houses most of the vegetables, the second some more veggies, and the third (furtherest away in the pic) is a cutting garden where the wife grows her flowers and cuts what she wants to display in the house. i will be adding some weeping cherries and a lace leaf maple or two amongst other tree, but not until next spring.
