Maybe there could be a bit less of the "they" in this discussion?

If Will was banned, it was by the GW site owner - who does not participate in the bonsai forum. None of us GW forum 'regulars' (who are often also members here and in various other places) knew anything or had anything to do with it.

I have no idea what - if anything - Will did to offend in his post about the contest, and frankly I think it's a shame because he contributed to the GW forum.

It's also a bit of a shame that some people have chosen to drag the names of other GW posters into this, describing them as 'pompous' etc - I've no idea why. It's hardly relevant.

Maybe a bit less 'us and them' would be healthy. The two forums (and the many others out there) are only a couple of clicks away from eachother after all, and personally I think a bit of cross-fertilization of ideas between them is a good thing. We all benefit from it. We do not benefit from any kind of schoolyard rivalry.

PS what's the best kind of wood to build a soapbox from?

Tom, I would suggest using a hard wood as mine tends to break apart alot.

Good point Tom, the people at GW were always nice and helpful, a friendly bunch for the most part. I apoligize if it seemed I was disapointed at the members, my disapointment l lays solely with the management. Please note that when I used the word "they" I meant the management and not the members. I should have chosen my words more wisely.

I believe that other GW posters (in my comments anyhow) were only spoken about with respect.

You are right Tom, we are all bonsaist, there should be no "they" just "us."
Again I apoligize for any words of mine that my have offended you.

Tom,

I don't see where any names have been "dragged" into this, most mention of direct GW poster names have included a wish for them to post here as well. As far as the "they", I took all those statements to mean "they who banned him", and not "they who post there". I guess we all read things differently.

Jennifer

EDIT: Will said the exact thing in his simultaneous post!

Actually you can't give neutral karma. You can, however receive karma that was rated neutral based on the sender having a low reputation+postcount+recent registration. So, unless a comment like, "Will, you are a menace to bonsai" accompanied the karma, it might have been intended as a positive and just wound up being neutral.

Regards,

Matt

Thanks Matt, that is good news, I'm still now sure exactly how the karma system works, although I understand the principle, it's the uncertainty factors that keeps me guessing. I sure would like to look at that code.

So based on the recent karmas you have given, the number of posts you have made, and the length of time you have been a member, and the karma you personally have....the code automatically assigns a neutal to a post that may have been given as a positive or a negative. This and the 10 karma limit between same members makes the system almost abuse proof.

On further thought....Interesting indeed, kind of a automatic moderator for the forum, if you will. This could be quite a useful tool for you Matt, the practical applications alone for a forum manager makes it well worth any headaches.
