Bald Cypress Collecting Trip

Treasure Coast Bonsai Society Members went on their annual collecting trip today. It was a rainy day, and we were driving in the mud; not a good combination. Many cars became stuck in the mud. Luckily, however, people were there to help push/tow them out. Once we reached the hammock of trees that we planned to collect at, club members spread out and found some beautiful bald cypress, simpson stoppers, and florida elms.

(Many thanks to Larry Duke for the photos)

The bald cypress that I collected. I will never collect one that large again. I still can't find a plastic pot to put it in, and will probably have to construct a wooden box for it tomorrow.

Many thanks to Todd Bevan, Richard Turner, and Bob (sorry, I can't remember his last name) for the help digging this one up.

Here is where I plan on doing the taper chop.

It was hard work. It took 2 hours for 4 people to dig it up.

That is one great piece of stock Charles. It should be fantastic in a couple years.
It looks like there will be some great BC's available at BSF with all the collecting going on down there!

Dale:

Who do you know that makes pots big enough for that (great) monster?

Do you?

Charles:

So now you need to buy a forklift!
