Bad moss
I've got a few trees that have the kind of moss I think I don't want. I call it "strangler" moss because it attaches itself to the nebari and starts working its way up the trunk. I've been told it's a killer, destroys the cambium and sucks the energy from trees.
Anybody know about this? Any way to get rid of it without severely damaging the tree? I thought about a soft toothbrush, rubbung it off. I tried on an azalea and the bark came off with it. If I did that all the way around there would be a naked band around the trunk. Are there any chemical cures that won't hurt the tree?

Scrape off the scrapable, then use your toothbrush with diluted bleach on what's left.

Thanks! I'll try that. I saw some sort of bottled de-mosser on the shelf at the local HD, but when I went back they had no more. I was kind of afraid to use it, no matter what it was. I didn't read the label before. Maybe it was bleach, too!
