Backyard Enthusiast

Hello All,
I am new to Bonsai but not to gardening. I also have a gscale garden train in my yard(about 80ft.).

I am drawn to small things naturally I guess and what to learn about Bonsai.

I am going to check out Roy's class at the Fuji Bonsai Nursery in Symar this saturday. I do not know what to expect but I am excited.
Can anyone share what I could expect from a first class experience?

I recently bought this Juniper mound and had some fun in the meanwhile.
Are these a good plant for Bonsai?

Best Regards, Rick

Hi Rick and welcome to the addiction Looks like you have a procumbens nana and that is a good species to start with. You're doing it right; pick a good teacher and stay with it. All I can say is be patient, you can't learn it all in one class. There's lots of books, magazines and forums on the internet but nothing can accelerate your progress like joining a club can. Ask around at your class and get some contacts going soon. You won't regret it.

I agree, Roy got me hooked at a demo about 5 years ago. He is a great teacher and you can learn a lot from him. Just be prepared to make it a life long hobby. You can't learn it all in one session, and you will be overwelmed, so take as much as you can and, like many things, it will spawn many more questions. Ask Roy to recommend some books. Good luck. You will have a lot of fun.
