Baccharis... Bonsai without "leaves?"

Still looking at this Baccharis I....had.... in a pot a couple years ago and then planted.

Just LOOK at that nebari.....swoon. REALLY pretty trunk.

But viney goofy ...leaves (?) They grow like crazy snakes.

It would never have the look of a conventional "tree" but the ...approximation... of a tree could be there. That is if a green ball atop a wonderful trunk could be considered a bonsai.

What's your opinion?

Why try and make it look like a conventional tree? A lot of vines are not convincing as trees, because they are vines. Train it as such, weeping branches emphasising the trunk and nebari. Dont make a pom pom, make a weeping birch or willow, gracefully leaning off a cliff, or over water.

Regards
Rowan

Hadn't thought of that. I wonder if it's possible. The thing is commonly called "Coyote Bush" and in the past I was never able to determine how to direct growth. It just seems to pick a place on a limb and a week later, there's a 9 inch snake there. ALWAYS weaving into the other branches. I pruned with grass shears. Didn't matter to it. Don't think anything KILLS it.

It also doesn't really wire. Even the thicker branches are a lot like rubber.
