Question Azalea Repot

Hello all! It is definately that time of year! I am about to repot an azalea (approx. 10yrs old) that I have had for about 18 mos. It definately needs it. I have had her dormant in my basement 55-65 degrees F for the winter. She recently started to push some new growth so I was getting ready to repot although I have been stalling. She just started to pop with some flower buds, am I too late? I haven't let the flowers mature I've just been popping them off because I don't want the energy to go into flowering, is that wrong? Should I nix the repot for another year or just move my a** and get on with it? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

dormant and 55-60 degrees don't go together. I'd be concerned about keeping this azalea alive. What kind is it? Is it one of the easter bloom varieties?

Your idea about taking off the flower buds is likely a good idea because it will save energy for the rest of the plant. It's too early to repot an azalea. One school of thought is to repot azaleas after they flower, the other is before flowering in early spring.

The rule according to the books is to wait till it is done flowering before repotting.

Or repot before the flowers come and remove them after repotting.
