bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Dr Roger Hnatiuk - Australian Native Bonsai.

Howdy all!

Dunno if this is the right place for this, but I came across this while doing my semi-regular Google for "Eucalyptus Bonsai". As it says on the website: "Dr Roger Hnatiuk discusses the challenges of bonsai using Australian plants."

I'd love to be there, but can't make it on such short notice and no budget ... If anybody here does make it, I'd love to hear what Dr Hnatiuk has to say.

Thanks.

FlyBri.

G'day Bri, Looks like an interesting day at the botanic gardens.
The Doc may be the founder of the study group but Dorothy and Vita Koreshoff have been using Aussie natives since the early 1930's I'd say much of the doc's original information came from the Koreshoff bonsai Nursery in Castle Hill.
There book Bonsai with Australian Native Plants is the definitive book on aussie natives. Combine that with Deborah Koreshoff book Bonsai Its Art Science History and Philosophy (the Bible) and you well on your way to creating anything you want.
I'm working with about 15 natives at the moment with the help of those books. You can order direct from the Koreshoff Nursery...I think its about $15 If I remember right?

Anyway...wish I could still go to that demonstration, An Aussie native Penjing would be fun to watch

Happy growing
TAI

Len Webber's excellent "From Rainforest To Bonsai" is also a very good book for Australian Natives. His trees make up the bulk of the collection at the Brisbane Botanical Gradens, at Mt. Coot-tha.

Gday Shibu and thanks!

I had never heard of or seen this book before, and I see that the ACS Bookshop has copies in stock... I've got a birthday coming up, so I'd best start dropping hints to the Good Lady.

Thanks again.

PS: In searching for more information about the aforementioned book, I came across an old copy of the APAB (Australian Plants As Bonsai) newsletter. I'd like to track down more of the newsletters, but in the meantime, you can see this one here. Enjoy.

A Long Awaited Update!!!

Gday team!

The ANBG Australian Native Plants As Bonsai site has been updated with pics from the Exhibition in Canberra (Nov 2006). The link is the same as the one above, but I'll list it again for good measure. Is that a River Red Gum I spotted in there?

http://www.anbg.gov.au/bonsai/index.html

Thanks.

Gidday Fly ,

Just what I needed, input....INPUT, feel'n homesick at the mo' sport.

New pics are an improved format, or so it seems to me....? Can get quite a few of these tree species over here in Holland, and some can be hardened off to grow outdoors, tho' a bit tricky, I can tells ya.

Can't thank you enough,
Nigel
