Auctions

I am looking at a software add-in that will make it possible to post auctions on bonsaiTALK. It's integrated with the forum membership, so you wouldn't need to sign up twice.

At this point it's still in the research phase. The cost is under $200, and it might possibly force an upgrade to other software, so I am not sure what the timeframe is.

If you'd like to contribute toward that project, you can make a donation using the button at the upper right, and pop me a PM to let me know you want to see auctions here.

In other news, the donations this month have been $20 to date, which is unfortunately under our operating costs

Regards,

Matt

As a true neophyte, I'd love the opportunity to bid on items submitted by those who make this such a great forum.

Matt,
Do not hesitate to let everyone know that donations are low. I'd be glad to donate more money, I just have to be reminded every once in a while.

I think the auction idea is great. I would like to hear more about it and how it works.

Hate to say it but I think that an auction page will bring about as much response as the for sale pages do on this forum .
I would say save your money or at least find something else to put it in.
Hate to be a spoil sport but that is the truth as I see it. Could be wrong though. In this case I hope I am proven wrong.

hmm a lot of people that are really into bonsai, mainly people that frequent this forum, wouldn't think of selling any of their trees. So I don't know either way. I know I have a few trees that I would put up.

Actually I'll be getting my own LLC soon for bonsai and selling bonsai under my LLC. I was going to do it mainly on ebay to save tax stuff but I really don't like ebay.

I often thought of putting some of my trees on the sales page, but the biggest deterrent is the shipping. How safe would it be to ship something that you've worked years on to someone who is eagerly waiting, and then find out the tree was either damaged in freight or died because of not getting any water. Overnight express would be a good option, but that might be more than the tree is worth in some cases. Ron is probably right in his obsevations about the auction being closely related to the sales page in success. It would be nice however to see some of the proceeds go to bonsaiTalk.

as long as the buyer is willing to pay for shipping and the plant is healthy there should be no problems as long as it's destination is not too much of a climate change or a climate not suitable for that plant.
