Anyone have Wollemi pine cuttings
Hello,
I'm new to this wonderful website. I would love to have a Wollemi pine tree cuttings. I would like to grow a few and donate them to a few local parks. Maybe we can arrange a trade of clivia seeds etc. John |

welcome to the site but i dont know how much luck you will have getting these cuttings. they arent really "bonsai material", but then again someone might have one as a house plant and might do a few cuttings for you
good luck! matt |

Have a look at the official website. I doubt you will find anyone with handfuls of cuttings to give away, but if you save your pennies you can buy a plant.
Good luck

Cuttings are the only way to propagate Wollemi's, i believe. I work at a general nursery that sells them and the price is dropping everyday. They started off about 200 ausie dollers for a 6 inch pot! Cuttings are fairly easy to strike with conventional methods. I do not own any and i also do not know where you live. But where i live, they are becoming quiet common in nurseries. I just cant understand what people are doing with them? I sell alot just before christmas (for use as christmas trees? Gifts?) but at the price they are, people cant just use them for a year and throw them. Unless the general public has knowledge on bonsai techniques such as root pruning, they must be going into the ground. And eventually become HUGE trees that people probably dont want in their backyards. Good luck finding some!

I saw what where named as Wollemi pine for sale as a christmas novelty. They were descibed as 'previously extinct' and 'living fossils' in the sign that accompanied them..the wierd thing was that they didn't look like pines at all, more like a yew but with larger leaves. i read up on them. Apparently it was thought to be extinct, but several individuals were found in the mid 90's in a now secret location in a national park. Best of luck if you manage to get hold of some cuttings, but as Jay suggested, potted specimens will probably become more common and drop in price, so you may find it easier to just purchase a pot grown tree. Anyone know the latin name?
When monkey puzzle trees were first introduced into the UK (late 1800's), lots of people bought them as novelties, unknowing how huge they grow. You can still see the odd monster-sized one in older gardens, survivers of a bygone era.

I picked one up a year or so back from a collector, when they were still somewhat rare. Recently, I saw pallets of them available from Big W (like a Kmart), for around $30 each. So the repopulation program seems to be defenitely working!
Probably not the best plant for bonsai, but that certainly hasn't stopped people from giving it a go http://www.bonsaiexotique.com.au/pa...emi_bonsai.html |

Hi CliviaJohn
Where in the world are you? Can you fill out your details As for Wollemi cuttings, I have never taken any from My tree, or know who may have tried them. As previous posters have said, they are relatively cheap in AUS now and you shoudl be able to get one anywhere. check out htis thread http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/f14/who...yone-20532.html for some photos and info re them Ray Nesci has one as a Bonsai being developed as an experiment, and I know there are others trying them as well.
