This is a friends tree who is interested in bonsai. She sais the leaves look like marijuana. Some kind of Acer comes to my mind, but what do I know. She has successfully grown this tree in her kitchen for several years. She also has grown azalea, cotoneaster, and junipers inside for years. Can someone id it for me

its an Aralia

Hi Doody,

This is an Aralia, or Polyscious fruticosa, or Ming Aralia. Even called the Parsely Aralia.

Common tropical in any department or home depot store. Usually trunk chopped with three stalks to a pot. I have a cascading one in the gallery.

Paul

I dunno really, but I think that if they are doing ok its one thing.....are they thriving? is another.

My parents bought the five pack of bonsai from Michigan Bulb company (I call it the Michigan dead stick company but thats my own history with them) anyhoot they managed to keep the azalea, and japanese maple, gardenia, and the wisteria alive in there house for about four years. The juniper died. But, there was absolutely no real growth, they look bad, but they are alive.

So, your friend is able to keep them alive. But are they really alive? Are they happy?

Well I told her that if she does'nt get them out now that they will die. I just found out that she has been using regular potting soil on all the trees, and has never repotted. They are all in small bonsai pots except the tree above. Don't worry, I gave her our link. So, hopefully we will see her around. She is a fellow pond-er from another forum.

Did I come off sarcastic or "tree huggerish" in that last comment?

So, your friend is able to keep them alive. But are they really alive? Are they happy?

I didnt realize til now that the statement above could be read in a multitude of ways......hehehe

your mission if you choose to accept....is to figure out which way.

I meant only, do ya think they are healthy? In respect to if they were in a growing condition that was more suited than indoors.

Happy healthy ....healthy happy.

geez Can ya tell Im on new meds??

Paul
