Annual Middle School Bonsai Seminar

Each year, I team up with George Muranaka of Muranka Bonsai Nursery to teach a bonsai seminar at the middle school where I teach. Here are a couple of photos from this week's seminar.

I thought the small raft that the young man is holding turned out especially nice (I was thinking of offering him $50 for it! ... just kiddin')

Thumbs up Ne-Pomah

So that is George.... my ebay budy. Kids can be so serious and grave in every snip if taught properly. If it were my class they would be dumping dirt on my head and playing kick the juniper over the table.

Great project Barry...hope some of the kids continue their bonsai in adult life.

Thumbs up

I would love to help out, I love working with youth. Seriously though it's really cool of you and George to be doing this yearly. It just show's how much you guys really love Bonsai. You go out of your way, to promote it, teach others and get kids excited. That's hardcore!!!

I know George always tells me he keeps his prices low when people come out to the nursery because he wants people to get into bonsai. Maybe someday one of your kids will be some crazy bonsai master and thank you for getting him/her into bonsai at a young age.

Mr. Muranaka tells the students if they bring their bonsai to his nursery in a year, he'll give them another one... not too many are able to take them up on his offer. Most of them haven't learned the patients and consistancy it takes to keep them alive.
