Andy Rutledge At Our Club Meeting

Hello everyone,

I just got back from our Dallas Bonsai club meeting with Andy Rutledge being this month's speaker discussing principles from his online book Artistic Foundations of Bonsai Design. I was very excited with the concepts presented. I realized that for the twelve years I've been doing bonsai that I often haphazardly try different things to achieve an artistically cohesive design. Using the artistic principles Andy presented to us, I feel that I can come up with a plan, and then follow this so that I don't have to sit there and try to figure out what's wrong. You know, that feeling you get after you finish designing a tree that something is wrong but can't quite put your finger on it. Andy helped me be able to more quickly put my finger on what's not right, or maybe one day not even have to take this extra step. Kind of like finally starting to see the forest rather than all the trees (no pun intended).

Andy's talk was very educational, entertaining, interactive, thought provoking, and very well received. I with my highest recommendation suggest that all you program chairmen out there consider having Andy talk at your club.

Kind regards,
Howard Smith, President of the Bonsai Society of Dallas

Gee whiz, what a glowing report. I'm glad you enjoyed it and will put your check in the mail today.

Actually, half of the group was asleep and the other half was disagreeing with me. Sort of like here. ;-p

Kind regards,
Andy Rutledge

as an aside, you know you're a web nerd when someone at work tells you a joke and you hand them a slip of paper with rotfl on it...

LOL Andy. Usually when I write LOL I don't mean it, but you had me laughing this time.

It definately was a great book. It has been quite helpful as well. Thanks for writing it!

Andy,
.I have to(actually i don't have to,but ,i do) agree with Charles. It was a good book, and i wish i could have been at the meeting.Unfortunately,I live 500 or so miles south of Dallas.
.I've been growing bonsai off and on for 25+ years and i have quite a few trees, but very few worth showing.I didn't plan,I pruned and trained on whims.Your e=book has inspired me to do better.
.So,you've influenced at least one person who would rather be an artist than a hobbiest.I am also sure that there are others.I may never get there, but at least I'll know the differance between what i have done and what i can do.
.If you're ever in the valley, south of Corpus Christi, and if you have the time, stop by Ned's Nursery in Harlingen.I'd enjoy meeting you.
