American Bonsai Society

I just had a chance to read the presidents message from the American Bonsai Society. Not sure how long it has been posted but here it is http://www.absbonsai.org/note.html
Most of the time these are just perfunctory things. Lots of promises but not much in the follow up department.
This one is a little different though. Most of what was said has become the way it is. Refreshing to say the least.
Especially the changes to the ABS Journal. The last issue definitely lived up to expectations. For me at least.
It is nice when one sees, for lack of a better word, a corporation that notices where it missing the mark then take positive steps to change.
Not to often I get to say nice things about one the bigger bonsai organizations. It is kind of nice when you can say it though ) Good job ABS.

Ron,
Congrats on the nomination.
With 4 of the new director nominees being bonsai businessmen perhaps we'll get more gains made in the vendor arena.

Thanks Dale.
As usual I'm among the last to know. Just got notified a few days ago myself. Guess they were trying to get me through my old addresses.
Nomination is nothing without the votes though. Got one hoping for the other.)

Ron,
You have my vote. Large organizations have great inertia and take forever to turn around.

You might be right about the inertia but the Journal sure has changed already.
Better articles with more information. Even noticed that you had a good one in the last issue on Wintering Tropicals.
The rest will follow. Seems like they are trying real hard. Time will tell.

Ron.
I second your thoughts on the ABS journal. The article quality has been really ramped up.
With you on the board, it will even be better.

Adam

I, among others, have been nominated to serve on the ABS Board of directors. ( I have no idea who nominated me) There still has to be a vote from the general membership. If I am not wrong a ballot of some kind will mailed out to the members. Either that or something will be put into the next copy of the Journal.
As far as I know the new directors will be announced sometime in May 2005.
How this all comes about I am not sure. Maybe Dale will chime in and fill in some of the details. He has been on the board for quite a while.

No good deed goes unpunished perhaps?

Twasn't me, they booted me off their forum because I used the word "sucks" so I dropped my membership. Besides I don't dislike you that much RR!
