Lightbulb Young False Cypress

I have a young False Cypress that I think will eventually make a nice tree. Right now it's 6 inches tall with 2 trunks that just came from the nearby nursery. I am going to move it into a 1 gal container so that it can really take off here in the California spring.

Here's my question...The label reads Chamaecyparis lawsoniana "Golden Surprise". I can find a lot of info about raising a False Cypress, but I can find anything referring to a Golden Surprise Is this a good tree to bonzai?

I'm guessing that the 'golden sunrise' part of the name just means it has yellowy foliage (or something along those lines). It will make little difference from the other cultivars available, thus you should be able to raise it acording to the information you have already.

Based on what I have read so far, when I put this new tree in the larger pot I should comb out some of the roots and trim back the larger roots to encourage the smaller root growth. Is this right? Should I cut the top to keep it short when I put it in the larger pot? Is it a good idea to remove the lower branches to foster the 2 main trunks?

Thanks!
