Question wiring

I couldn't find what I wanted with the search function so I a posting a thread...

What is the correct time of year to wire a tree? Or can it be done anytime? Do you just leave the wire on as long as it takes for the tree to "set" or is there a set time period for different trees?

Thanks,

Andy

I think it depends on where the tree lives and what type of species it is. Every type of tree is different. Some respond well to wiring, some are best shaped by growing and clipping the branches without wiring. Some trees have a "memory" that encourages the tree branch to return to its former shape. The choice of wire, and determing the length of time the tree is wired is as much of the art of wiring as twisting wire around branches. I'm learning, and having a lot of fun in the process!

I suggest going to google and typing in the species and something like: "maple" "bonsai" "care". I'll bet you'll get your question answered.

There are stated optimal times for wiring- depends on species. However, I have taken the Harold Sasaki approach- Trees don't have calendars- if you are moved to work on atree then work on it- just be informed enough to know when to stop. Has helped me get over my calendar phobia.....
