Tree ID and my inability to do so.

Hello,
I just recently purchased a very nice, very old tree (about 35). It's not in any particular style and it's hasn't been given a chance to fill out very well (I'll post a pic for critique if I can get one taken and scanned), so I expect to have an interesting time training it and changing its look to something more to my style.
What I am a bit confused about is exactly what kind of tree I have here. It was sold as a "snow rose", but I don't think that's right. The tree has a light colored smoothish trunk(smoother than a Fukien Tea, not as smooth as, say, a birch), very small pointed oval leaves, and small white lilly shaped flowers on the tips of some of the new growth.

Any help identifying this tree is very much appriciated. Thanks.

BBNY has a Snow Rose Serissa, that is probably what you have.

When & if you can post the photo, keep this thread in mind, that will keep everything together.

Regards,

Matt

Re: Tree ID and my inability to do so.

Hi, thanks for the quick response.
I looked at a snow rose like the one in that picture at the store, and when comparing the flowers on the Snow Rose to the ones on my tree, I'm almost certain that I have something different. The flowers on mine are star shaped and very "deep" (tall, whatever). They look very much like white lillys, like something a really, really tiny hummingbird would enjoy quite a bit.

I'll try to get that picture.

Re: Tree ID and my inability to do so.

It could also be another variety of serissa foetida, Kyoto serissa, for example. There are different kinds of blooms in different varieties.

Re: Tree ID and my inability to do so.

I took a look at a few Serissa leaf and flower pictures and I think this might be it. Are there any full sized pictures of whole trees that I could compare? I looked but coulnd't find any (I could very well be blind and the pictures be staring at me from this very page)

FoolsRun: You may very well have better luck compairing your tree to nursery trees, sooner or later you will find your answer.........ripsgreentree

Re: Tree ID and my inability to do so.

The extent of my Bonsai knowledge is how to water and trim what I don't like from the trees. Providing a cutting is far beyond my current capacity
