Summer Care for Trident Maple

Hello,
I have a Trident Maple, and I was wondering what type of summer maintenance I should be giving my Trident Maple. I live in BC Canada, and have enclosed some pictures of the tree. I have read in my book that you should: "Prune, and Pinch regularly to keep your tree in good condition. With most species this is a weekly task." What does this exactly entail? Is there any other thing I should do other then regular watering, and fertilizing every few weeks?
Please Advise,
Scott.

I was searching for exactly this information, but I haven't been able to find it. Would someone who knows be willing to take a shot at describing what "Prune, and Pinch regularly to keep your tree in good condition. With most species this is a weekly task." means so that a newbie like me can understand?
