Small Pot?
Hello!
I got a "Mallsai", and would like to replace the "Mall" with a "Bon" by learning how to take care as good as possible of my tree. It is a Chinese Juniper, and it came in a very nice looking pot that has on one side the tree/soil, and on the other side a setup with some stones, etc. Unfortunately, the side where the tree lives is very small. Here are 2 pics: [img:4275b9dccf]http://www.frogfrau.com/holger/smallpot.jpg[/img] [img]http://www.frogfrau.com/holger/smallpot-2.jpg[/img:4275b9dccf] Does this look too small for this kind of tree? My guess would be that the roots are sticking out above the soil so much because there is no space left inside the pot anymore. Or does it look good, and I shouldn't worry about it? Should I repot it? If yes, what would be the best time to do so? |

To Holger the same aplise to the pot it's winter most repoting is done in the spring. this tree could live in that pot for the next ten to twenty years if you learn to look after it. go out and get a couple of bonsai books fron the libary take the time of dormancy to read up on bonsai care them when spring come's spring into it.

Re: Small Pot?
Hello Scott,
thank you for your help. I'll definitely learn a lot in the future, there are just a couple of things that I don't want to mess up before I have the knowledge to do them right. Holger |

Re: Small Pot?
It's hard to tell from the photo, but the soil looks dry.
I would soak it for an hour and then water it overhead thoroughly several times to get the water flowing out the drain holes. If the tree begins to suffer for any reason, I would look at removing that large, flat rock that seems to cover a good part of the soil surface. So long as the tree remains healthy: no trouble. Regards, Matt
