Shoots Sprouting Everywhere
I have a thriving Serissa Foetida that I adore and I am so happy it is doing so well as this is my first attempt at growing a bonsai.
However, she has shoots spouting at the roots and through the soil and I don't know if I should remove them Thanks |

Is it possible that you could post a picture or two of your tree?

I've posted a couple of pictures in the members gallery and i'll duplicate one here hopefully.
I thought that I might apply the same rule one does to rose suckers, as in, remove them Edited to say: I tried to add a photo but it was too large. I have a folder in the members albums that has the two images I was going to use |

Quite common for serissa to do that. Normally they do grow in a clump. If you want you can just snip them off. It won't hurt the tree. It will become part of your normal routine with this specie |

Here's your shoots photo. I've taken it from the Gallery, which is intended for show quality trees. If you want to post multiple views of the same tree or steps of work in progress, or tree parts, please use the forum. Regards, Matt

It might be interesting to chop one of thos large roots with a shoot on it and start another tree. It might make for a unique base on the new tree, and on the original tree as well.
Not sure, but I think you could do that with out harming the tree if you did it correctly. |
