Question Is this Serissa worth saving.

Need Your Opinion...

I'm new to bonsai and let the cutting get a little out of hand. Does anythink someday it could be something? What direction should I head in? Any help would be great. Thanks

Serissa

Looks it could be the start of a raft style. I say any living tree is worth saving, if for nothing more than experimenting and learning.

I let my serissa that I didn't like grow on its own and use it to layer and take cuttings. It is a beautiful tree just not a very good bonsai.

CasierSosay:

I would humbly suggest that this matereial is not going to be very workable. I recommend you put your efforts to something a little more developed.

I see potential in this plant and I think it's really far to soon to be writing it off.

1) The raft would work, but it's still too small.
2) The lower trunk has movement. You could cut it right back to the trunk and create a Mame - I assume these trees bud back easily. (check!)
3) Grow in on outside in a grow box/bed and see where it takes you.

Probably not the right time of year to be hacking it to bits though - wait for spring.

I never would throw away a tree that you can try to salvage. One of the things that I love to do is go to the nurserys and take the junk and see if I can make something out of it. It is fun!

Sorry for the crude photoshop work, but I am at home on my laptop without my regular programs...but here is what I would do.

Chop it all down to the main section that I have shown you, then bring the three main branches down and re-adjust the center one (that is slightly off to your right currently in my pic). Also lower your right hand side.

Then take care of the baby and let her grow and see what she does. Re-pot her in a new, larger pot and just let her grow. It will be interesting to see what she does!

Here is my pic...again, sorry for the crude photoshop! If I am not being clear, let me know and I will gladly try to explain further! But I think in an informal upright or a cascade (as mentioned earlier by another member) you have a nice little tree!

I reckon with that close growth low down, you could get a nice mame out of this!

You have a couple good options for mame there as mentioned above.

I could not help but to notice the maple seed in the pot, this would tell me that you most likely have lots of maple seedlings growing around the yard, have you tried anything with this free material yet?

Definatly worth saving. Keep the lower branch, and I can see a cascade.
