Serissa foetida

Hi,

I am BRAND NEW to this exciting art and hobby. I just purchased a Serissa foetida from a reputable dealer, and I already notice that the leaves are getting brown tips on them. I have cut back on water (seems quite damp), but am still misting. I moved it out of the direct sun today, thinking it was getting burned (I live in S. California, and it has been quite warm), but the leaves seem even worse today.

Please help!

Gayle

Re: Serissa foetida

Gayle: Here are a couple of thoughts for serrisa, if you purchased it and it was under shade and you put it into full sun this could cause leaf burn, also if it is in potting soil and the roots are soggy this could cause your leaf problem. I am in fresno and the serrisa that I potted this spring is in bonsai soil in one gallon pots in full sun, I started them in the shade house until the start of new growth and then mooved them to a full sun exposyer. Another thought, If your serrisa is potted in a bonsai container, when was it potted? Nurserys will often pot up new stock all season long or as they sell off old stock. You may have aquired newly potted material. Take heart in this, serrisa is hearty and will come back if you give it proper care. Look at the potting soil and watering, if you can get this tree to produce new growth then you can start feeding. Remember that you should only use 1/2 strength or less when feeding your potted trees. I hope that these thoughts help you......ripsgreentree
