Sapling That Hasn't Gone Dormant

I've got a sapling oak that I'm worried about. I got it in August, and put it in a pot just thinking it would be cool to have a tree in a pot not even thinking of a Bonsai, until now.

I know that it needs to go outside but I won't be able to do so until spring because it is too cold where I am and I have no where protected to put it.

Right now it sits on my window shelf in front of the open window with the cold winter air blowing on it. But it hasn't dropped its leaves yet, and shows no signs of intending too. Could it be young enough to make it through a winter w/out going through dormancy? Or should I put it in the refrigerator or something?

Any help would be great,

Justin

Do you have a unheated garage that you could put it in. I'd try to keep it cool but above freezing. 32-50 degree range. If not I'd just keep it on the window sill and hope it makes it til spring. Keep it away from any heating vents and try to keep the humidity up. Watch the watering too, You want the soil just damp but not wet.
