Pieris Japonica help
Location: Wichita, KS
Zone: 6a Plant: Pieris Japonica I recently aquired a Pieris Japonica from Lowes. The soil that it is in seems to drain fairly quickly. From the time the water hits the top it might take 1.5 seconds before it's draining out of the bottom. From my research this plant should be in an acidic soil. The soil that it came in is far from acidic. When I used my ph tester the needle stayed at alkaline and didn't even budge. I have grown herbs and house plants but have never had anything that required acidic soil. I am not sure what I need to do to the soil at this point. With it being Sept already I didn't think I should be repotting this shrub at this point either. The plant care label that came with this tree was very vague. It had also stated this was a full sun plant. Full sun burned my leaves. I've also found that most people have had more success with this guy in the shade. So now it's in the shade.
