Ok here is one for you Experts....

I acctualy have two questions. One is that I am growing Paper birch trees from seeds what is good enviroment for them to grow up healthy and strong. #2 for a sapling that is about 10 inches tall, one summer of growing, and i believe it is any aspen (small toothed) it is straite and long but it has no side branches, can I cut off the top to promote the side branch or should i leave it a lone, also it has grown about 4 inches of new growth at the top but no side branches.

I would try cutting it back in the spring and see if it will bud back.
I am afraid that my approuch to bonsai is a fatalistic one. If the tree does not do what I want it to, I will not keep it. I say, "in bonsai there is only the good, and the dead".
If the tree will not develope some laterial branches it will be difficult to design a bonsai from a single tree.

Birch are a little tricky to get to backbud but not impossible. The main thing is the timing and the health of the tree. *I would pot it in a large training pot next spring and let it grow wild with a heavy fertilizer program all season. The following spring chop the trunk right when the buds just begin to swell. All of the root reserves will be looking for dormant buds to put their energy into and you should get new buds further down the trunk.
