Novice - advice would be appreciated

Hello Everyone,
I have always been interested in the Bonsai, but only now have I decided to give it a try. I am reading the book "Growing & Displaying Bonsai" by Colin Lewis & Neil Sutherland. I have purchased a Pinus pinea - Stone Pile from the garden center.

I am not sure what comes next. Do I branch prune now in Nov-Dec or do I wait until early spring? It is my understanding that I do not want to prune and repot at the same time. Should I put my Stone Pine in a pot next spring or wait a year?

Should I work on many plants at the same time or just handle one right now?
Any advice will be much appreciated.

Regards to all,
Dolly

Anttal's right on one thing: photos would help us offer informed advice.

One of the best moves you can make right now is find and join a good club. Try the website of the Golden State Bonsai Federation; I'd think they'd have a club directory for California. Then pick a club and get involved. And keep us posted.

Thanks for the advice about the Golden State Bonsai Federation. I will definately check it out. I most likely have butchered my little Pinus Pinea since my last post a few hours ago. But, I will post a photo tomorrow.
Regards,
Dolly

Dolly,

Quick question for you... does your book have information left out? For example you may be reading about one of the projects shown and it cuts off in mid sentence and thats it. Next page is the beginning of the next project.

I have the same book and this is what happens. This may be why it was found at a thrift shop. Nonetheless, I have still learned some valuable info from it.
