I am not exactly sure but I think that it would be fine. I think this because Trees are'nt too picky. That tree could probably grow in things you would'nt dream of. Good Luck

Whoa, what just a second. Trees can be and are picky. Gypsum will lower the acidity in soil better than lime, this will be harmful to your Azaleas, Pines or other acid loving plants. Trees are picky, which is why we grow in fast draining mixes and not in potting soil, straight manure, play sand, clay, etc.

Question anything before use. How does it hold water, will it retain too much or too little? Does it break down? Try putting some in a cup with water and test it in a week, is it a gooey mess or did it hold it's integrity? Will it affect acidity? Until you know more about this product, stick with the proven components.

Of this I am exactly sure...

Got to agree with Will.... question any new soil component.

Question, why are all new to Bonsai trying to reinvent the wheel with regard to soil? Soil is one of the few areas where you too as a beginner can have the best or at least a proven soil. Bonsai soil, bought as mixed soil or put together by yourself(from known receipe), is not all that exspensive. It is EXTREMELY important for the growth and health of your trees.

We are takeing trees out of the ground and working them into small containers, shouldn't we use the best soil possible? Yes, there are alternatives and you can try and build your own soil mix but remember... if it is not used by others already it is very possible not used for a reason..... go the proven course and take a very important variable out of the mix when it comes to the life and growth of your trees.
