Hello. I have been trying to grow bonsai's for two years. The first year was spent with seedlings from my yard as I did some on-line reading. Most of the seedlings are dead with the exception of a Mullberry tree and a small white oak.
This past year I went the route of nursery stock. I have two Ilex hollies 'Stokes Dwarfs', and one Azalea. I have found plenty of info on them. The reason I am posting here is for the other nusery stock I picked up.
I found a wind swept Compact Texas Sage 'Leucophyllum frutescens' and Plum delight chinese fringe flower 'Loropetalum chinense' and a nice Rose glow barberry 'Berberis thunbergii' which I have in a tall square pot with the long limbs tied down to make it weep.
Seems these plant are not common bonsai and I was looking for suggestions concerning the care and pruning for them.
I live in Dallas Texas and so far the coldest day this winter has been maybe 34*F. They are all in 8"x5"x2" pots and will be left alone till next spring. I pruned and cut back the roots when I potted them in October. They all go back and forth from outside and inside with grow light.
Any suggestions would be great. And has anybody had any luck growing moss from store bought spores?
Oh

and I just bought three Acer Maples. Ones a Trident, ones a Deshojo and the last is just a regular Japanese Maple. They should be here with in the week and I can't wait till next year to get started on them. I'll pictures posted on the web soon and will post the addy here if I can.
Thanks
