New Juniper need advice!

I just picked up a nursery juniper, I am very new to bonsai and I thought this would be an ideal tree for one of my first. I have done a little trimming to the tree to see what I have to work with and Think I have found an ok pick. I can't complain because the tree cost me are you ready $2.00 I picked it up from the clearance area. They had a ton of junipers bigger and smaller, but for now until I have a better idea of what I am doing this will work just fine. I have a few questions, It is very poorly potted and wanted to know if it was ok to repot at this time of year, reason being is the roots look very restricted in the pot that it is in now and I dont not know if it will make it to next spring. I can tell the roots need to be cleaned up and the tree needs to be repoted there are small feeder roots that are curled against the side of the pot. I have attached some pictures of the tree so everyone can add there .02 I am going to wire the tree this week and wll post pictures.

Chris

If you do repot you should not mess with the roots too much. I would just slip it out of the pot it is in, remove most of the old soil, and slip it into a new pot with the right bonsai soil mix. i would hold off on wiring if you are going to repot simply to reduce the stress on the tree. If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask, but as far as repotting goes...I think you can get away with it as long as you do not do any root pruning.

OK well the Juniper has been repotted and styled. I know its a little late in the year, but I could not let the juniper sit in the pot condidtion it came in from walmart. The poor thing was root bound very bad. I hope the it can handle the shock.

Here are some updated pictures please tell me what you think, this is my first repot and style.

Hi chris my virt is only an indication of where i think this tree's lines and shape should go. and to get those branches to back bud closer to the trunk. the fist left hand branch and the rear one are good to let grow unchecked in order to thicken the base of the tree . you can later (preferably later than sooner) get rid of them or jin them.good luck

It's screaming something to me too. But it seems now days the truth will get you screamed at. I will elaborate if the original poster requests the information.
