Need someone to confirm bonsai ID plz
My father bought this bonsai tree for me. It seemed to be a juniper of some kind. When I started reading on how to take care of it, I realized how many kinds there were. I took it to the local nursery and they said it was a Blue Point Juniper. I think it's a chinese juniper. Can anyone out there help me id it? I don't want to kill the poor guy out of ignorance. I've attached a picture of it's leaves.

Wow, I can't see the forest because of all those trees!
Can you give us a View from back a bit. By the way, The junipers are very similar as to growing practices. How is the overall health, what is the growing enviroment and what is the soil like, etc. These would all help if you want help with something in particular.

Here is the side shot. It seems to be in fairly good health, but we've only had it for three weeks.

Re: Need someone to confirm bonsai ID plz
Ouch. I nearly cut myself looking at that.
![]() It may be that both the nursery and you are right. There are several named varieties of chinese juniper. The blue point juniper is the common name for one cultivar. This looks like a procumbens juniper to me. In any case, you can find some basic care info at BCI Species Index under Juniperus chinensis http://www.growit.com/Plants/Growers/778C.htm I think this is probably the procumbens juniper Juniperus prucumbens 'nana', simply because it is the most common. Dwarf Green Mound Juniper, Japanese or Chinese Garden Juniper. In any case they need similar care. Regards, Matt
