hmmm, is that a Melaleuca Agonis or Callistemon?
Looks like you already have some ideas concerning the trunk and the roots?
If it is one of the above mentioned genus then you will be faced with vigorous growth.
You could start by reducing the length of some of those long shoots, but as far as style goes, I think the myrtle is telling you to go for a classic spreading canopy.
Some of those main branches look like they wont bend no matter how much wire you put on them, however you could try letting it dry out a little as this will soften them up a little before wiring but be careful not to let it dry up too much as yo dont want it to die back.
Again, if it is one of the genus i mentioned at the start then you can cut them back pretty hard and they will reshoot from old wood quite easily.
If all else fails, look at what you have and look at what others have done with a similar shape.
Good luck and post your efforts : )

Actually I hear it screaming "Cut me back to potensai; I'm not a bush!"

If this will tolerate heavy pruning, I'd pick a leader and a first branch and cut everything else off. I'd cut the leader back hard, the first branch not quite so, wire for shape and start building branch structure.

This could be a fine shohin or mame in a few years.
