Looking for info on collecting/yamadori

Apologies to everyone if this has been discussed at length previously, but I've searched and gone through the articles section and can't find it.

Can anyone point me to a primer or guidelines on collecting potential bonsai material from the wild? Anything from intro through in-depth material would be great.

I'm not looking to kick off a whole discussion (althought I'm certainly not standing in the way of one), just a link would be a great help.

Thanks for any help!

http://walter-pall.de/ - read it from the master, also did you use the word "Collecting" in your search, because there is some really good info written up, I think also Brents site has info too.

I echo Andys choice for Nicks book - although it is limited to mainly northern north american native material.

The basic guidelines are there aren't really any basic guidelines. THere is no one or a thousand ways to tell you how to collect a specific tree. Even Nick Lenz specifies in his book that his methods are for tree in the Northeastern US. I know I don't use alot of them here in the Middle Atlantic states, depending on which species I'm digging.

The best way to learn how to do it, is to go with someone who has done it--more than once successfully.

Without experience, you're in for ALOT of trial and error. Not that there's anything wrong with that. That's basically how I learned, but don't collect any terrific trees (learn on mediocre or even bad trees) until you have kept a collected one alive in a container (don't plant collected stock back in the ground) for at least TWO years...
