light for a mallsai
hi everyone!
i just picked up a mallsai yesterday, and have been doing a lot of reading about bonsai since (including learning why i shouldn't have bought it). the mallsai is a juniper, and didn't have any glued-on stuff, though the soil seems too sandy for a juniper. i know the little guy isn't dormant, as it's got quite a lot of new growth, but i've read up about that in this forum. my big problem is that i live in a dorm in upstate new york. i keep my window open most of the time, so i can keep the bonsai chilly. however, most days up here are completely overcast, with either rain or snow, and i'm worried that the bonsai won't get enough sunlight. any suggestions would be very welcome. thank you! |

Re: light for a mallsai
The open window will help. A fan blowing on the tree and a humidifier is a good idea too. Even with all this the success rate for inside junipers is not good. You'll need a grow light. This doesn't need to be anything expensive. A regular shop light with one warm and one cool tube should do.
