Juniper And Moss Issues

The moss in my juniper is turning into a green chlorophylly goo. Any clue what's going on?
Also, my juniper tree has two halves, one half is a not very good cascade, and the other half is growing more shrublike.
The cascade half is not healthy, but the shrubby half is in excellent shape.
Anyone have any theories?

1) No theories, just facts! The soil is staying too wet. This may be because you are overwatering or the drainage is poor. Scrape off all the goo and at least the top inch of soil and replace it. When did you last repot and what are you using for soil? If it's still springlike weather (wisteria blooming or not yet begun, in the neighborhood?) Then you might consider repotting the plant.

2) Do you have access to a digital camera or a scanner?

Regards,

Matt

That makes a lot of sense, thanks!
It must've been like that for a while, some of the moss is gooey and some of it is crusty. Taking care of these things in a college dorm room is tricky.

And unfortunately, the only camera I have at my disposal is a really cheap $40 one that is prefocused on things 5 feet away, so it can only take clear pictures of people.
I posted some pictures of the tree taken with that camera before, and if I remember correctly, noone could tell much of anything.

But thank you, I'll do some scraping today.

That worked really well. I did it about 2 weeks ago and there's all kinds of new growth showing up on both halves of the tree.

i'm glad it's doing better but in reading your post i thought...yikes when i read that line. is it indoors if yes, there's plenty to read here about the subject of junipers as indoor trees. i'd suggest doing so and that may assist you and your juniper.

regards
bill

Yeah it really did. I'll be spraying that thing like mad.
During the month of January, it spent it's time right beside the window behind the curtain. I think it may have gotten cold enough that it went at least mildly dormant.
I consider myself lucky that it's in good shape, or even alive.
