Agreed, Ash - European.
They back-bud so you can chop it all the way back to the roots - that's the good news. I've don't like them as subjects for bonsai and I've tried enough of them to know better than to pick up them any more.

My excuses, I see my English was difficult to understand. I'll try again. This tree is a European Ash. They are very common and grow very quickly. They are not very good for bonsai because they have large leaves which never get very small. Secondly they tend to grow tall without growing very fat. I've tried to make bonsai out of ash and never had success. I think you can learn a lot by growing this tree further - but it will be difficult to make a good bonsai out of it.

definately not the greatest subject however there is some plus's. jeremy if you put them in a large grow pot or in the ground they get fat very quick once they are in a bonsai pot its all over. they have great natural basal flare and movement.3 issues to make this tree a bonsai; 1st it needs to be a large tree, nothing under 24 inches. 2nd i believe that this tree needs more soil than the average so you may never be able to have in the perfect size pot. 3rd the leaf reduces very well but you need to be diligent with defoliating.
