Help with Desert Fern

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and new to bonsai. I bought a 12" Desert Fern ( LYSILOMA ) at a garage sale this morning for $2and from what I understand here in (Tucson, AZ) now is the time for potting, repotting, and pruning.

I need to know if anyone with experience with this has any suggestions for topside pruning. Each main stem contains about 4-6 smaller stems packed with leaves like typical ferns, should I prune each individual smaller stem with the leaves or the main stem that contains the stem grouping? Also, I intend to prune the top off to shorten the plant and encourage more side growth, with a 12" plant is it possible to prune too low?

Re: Help with Desert Fern

Greetings Desert dwarf,

I don't know a lot about ferns, but I found a link with a Lilysoma bonsai in Scottsdale, Arizona on the Phoenix Bonsai Club page that belongs to Fairlee Winfield:

http://www.users.qwest.net/~rjbphx/Display/Lysiloma.html

Maybe you could contact the club and get some specific information from the club? rjb@phoenixbonsai.com

Here is a basic page:
