future forest on slab.

well! I finally got my bluestone slab to do my forest on, and because this is going to be a perfect forest (Arn't they all?) I'm really going to research everything! twice! Ok, first question, would it be a good idea to drill a couple of drainage holes in the slab? the slab is approx 30cm by 50 cm. or will the fact that the slab is flat, allow the water to drain sufficently? I have been told that muck can be bad, and that a mound effect should be avoided? is this correct? if I don't use muck, what do/should I use to retain the soil? Also, I'm toying with the idea (I don't intend to do this forest until next year) of doing a model? of what I'm trying to do to see how it would look? for that matter, planting the slab with accent plants this year to see how things go? maintence etc.

The future trees for this slab will be a grove of elm seedlings (Like 50-60 of them?)

the only problem wid muk is it needs to stay moist other wise it is no prob, but make sure your drainge is good. drill holes is good although will you need a special bit to get through bluestone.
