Hey weeijk I am generally a _____ _____ anyway... I took no offense. Other than my perfect wife the only thing that brings me joy is arguing my point of view with equal peers.

Well Pup you mention a species that is on that list of types of Ficus that are good for bonsai. The original post was about an unknown wild tree. But even with a species that is good for Bonsai you had better have ideal conditions in order to pull off leaf size reduction of that level.

RM

I won't waste my hate on you.

Your comment was that leaves that big will not reduce. I can confirm that leaves that size will reduce. So I assume we have perfect growing conditions. Pup

I'd bet 6-7 inch leaves on a tropical species like a ficus would reduce significantly, with proper leaf pruning, root confinement and full sun. Willow leafed ficus have large leaves

This is, however, the final stage of bonsai training and about three steps ahead of what Jut needs to know right now at what apparently is trunk chop time.

plz no fighting !!!

thanx for the replies guys.........sorry i couldnt post pics of my trees earlier but i dont have a digi-camera......and im posting the pic as early as i possibly could......i know the pic isnt very good but plz bear with me..... i put a ciggrette pack along the leaves so you can figure out the leaf size.......

plus i think i found out what type of tree it is , i believe it is a ficuz virens...or commonly known as strangler fius......

http://www.portalbonsai.com/foro3_m...9419&counter=31
check out the fourth bonsairom the top

http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthr...ht=ficus+virens
a fellow bonsaitalker has one too

http://www.anbg.gov.au/images/photo...13LH03/095.html

http://www.bonsai-bci.com/Certre04/certre04A.html

after looknig at these pics and after reading that jarrydbonsai ( bonsaitalker) has been able to reduce the leaf size to 5 cm.........i think if i grow a much bigger and ticker bonsai the leaf size wouldnt seem that bad after all..........this ficus variety might not produce great bonsai but i dont think it would be fair to call it a NON-BONSAI tree either...........what do you guys think?

Jut

P.S. thanks a million for the replies !!!!

G,day I said the last word not words. Any love is worth having. Pup

P.S. By the look of the leaf, and this is purely supposition,it could also be Ficus indica A native of India ,Burma ,and Maylasia. It grows to a height of 15 metres with a spread of 4 metres .The trunk is erect and stout the leaves are oval , accuminate and 15cm (6inches ) .

The leaves of the Ficus virens are 7:5 cms ( 31/2 inches ) long oval tapering ; Both are drought and frost tender. Pup

Love is all around yeah xxxx

Hey Jut, i was wondering how the aerial roots grew, is it just because they have hign humidity, i want to grow some aerial roots with mine, i have asked for help already and i was told to just lower the branch to the ground and then raise the branch as the root grows. Also to mist the plant and put a plastic bag over top to trap the humid air.

Thanks, i know im not helping you out much by giving you a question to answer..

Thumbs up

I have many Ficus and RMILLER'Ss post indicating there are some Ficus species that work great as Bonsai subjects and some that don't (keep
in mind the Rubber Tree is a member of the Ficus family) overall if your new
or old at the hobby Ficus is a great plant to work and experiment with. Aerial
roots are too cool!! Don't fight-breathe deep and ENJOY!
