Ficus growth
Iv have a Ficus Golden Gate since December it is indoors because i was afraid of putting it outside i didnt want it to go dormant this late in the season. It gets plenty light and water and is doing well. The problem is it has new growth, Im not sure if i should start pruning it now. My understanding is that it should be prund in the spring. Any advise would be a great help thanks

Re: Ficus growth
I am pretty new at this, so don't take this as gospel! *I have a small Ficus, that I picked up late last summer. I've been pruning and pinching the thing all winter. *It's growing pretty fast, and seems healthy. *I hope I'm not doing it wrong, but it's still alive! *Guess you learn as you go. *Good luck.

Re: Ficus growth
You can prune them anytime they are growing. It just depends on what you are trying to do with the tree. *If you are happy with the shape of the tree just prune the branches back to a leaf to keep the basic outline. *If you are still training it or trying to grow it larger there are times when you'll want to let them grow.

Re: Ficus growth
Same here... I have a small ficus and it is inside in the wintersun and it is like a Duracell battery: its going.. and going.. and going..
![]() You can hardly do anything wrong with them I think. I've been pruning it like hell and the more I cut, the more it grows... ![]() Regards, Eric |

Re: Ficus growth
Mwuahahaha. Ficus are weeds, I bought one at the local every thing market (for those of you who have them fred meyers). anyway, it had a 3 inch trunk that was very tall (4 feet, with a 1 and a half foot canopy radii). I bought that in december 2001. it is now 3 feet tall and the canopy was thinned to 1 tenth and is now only slightly smaller, that is in 2 months or so. Ficus are weeds.
