dormant or dying?

Hi everyone.

a couple of months ago, my privet (ligustrum is it called?) lost all of its leaves. it has been dormant ever since. its been two months without any leaves, and i have been extremely careful with the watering. it still hasn't regrown any leaves. i scratched away a little of the bark, and it is still green underneath - this is further down the trunk. higher up it isnt so green. so what shall i do with it? is it sitting dormant, gathering strength, or is it slowly dying? im hoping it will make a come-back!

Privet can be a bit funny.

I've noticed that they can be sometimes be slow to recover from heavy pruning. It could last a fair few months. I suggest you make sure it doesn't dry out and just keep watching it for signs of life. If there's been some die back you might consider planting it out in open ground until it regrows...
