Digging The Wound Deeper?
I've heard of people talking about digging a wound of a tree deeper so that it heals over faster. What does this mean?
For example: One cuts a think branch off with a concave cutter leaving a wound, then digs a bit of the wood out to form a small crater.

If you cut close with a concave cutter that will be fine for most trees. For species that form thick scar tissue it may be necessary to cut a little more wood out of the center of the wound, making it more concave. The idea is to have a wound, once healed, that is smooth and without protrusions.
