Dead Black Fly?
Hello,
My girlfriend has a maple which a few weeks ago got a lot of small black insects on it (I think they are black fly). We sprayed the tree with an black fly killer we go from the local garden center. All the black fly seem to be dead now but all the dead bodies are suck to the leaves. I was wondering if I should cut all the leaves off to get rid of them? any suggestions? |

Defoliation seems like over kill to me to get rid of dead bugs. Take it outside and spray the foliage with a water hose. That should knock them off.

I can't imagine what is so sticky to hold them on the leaves like that. Have you tried picking them off, scraping them off? Something is telling me here that this elm is not exposed to outside conditions. A little wind and rain and I think they would be gone. Are you keeping the maple inside? That will cause bigger problems down the road.
