chopstick vs. bamboo skewers

I found these bamboo skewers laying around the house and was wondering if I can use these, instead of chopsticks, to measure the moister in my soil?

Thanks!!

Pete, I guess you could, but, the skewers are very thin and probably be difficult to read...so to speak. They should work!

It's hard to beat just feeling of the soil with your fingers and sensing the moisture.

Adam, do you mean that the skewers read more or less than chopsticks?
Thanks!

They dont read as effective as a nice pair of wood chopsticks. So what im trying to say is they read less. But you can give it a try and see what your results are.

Re: chopstick vs. bamboo skewers

Well, what I think, is that skewers are nice, because if you feel a dry skewer maybe the plant still has some water, but if you feel a dry chopstick, it means that the plant is really dry, well, I have used skewers, and had worked nice for me, indeed they saved 2 very nice trees (well, looking forward for them) with them. Actually, I use skewers because chopsticks are harder to find... and more expensive, because with the skewers you can change them every day without a problem, but I don't know, but I think you can't do it with chopsticks...

Well, I'm not an expert, not even near to that, but what I do is that I change them when I put some water to the soil, clean it and dry it, so I can use it again... It had worked for me, since my agonic trees are again alive hehehe...

Hey!

I bought a pack of those skewers. The come in real handy for lits of things. The best use is to use them to secure the drain screen in pots.

I also use them to spread my wound sealer, poke dirt in between small delicate roots, and killing ants, one at a time. God I hate ants! Did I mention I had an ant mound under my favorite black pine?
