bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Lightbulb Cascade Shimpaku

I recently purchased a Shimpaku from a nursery in Berkeley, CA., and am looking for some pics on the web for suggestions. I'll post a picture later, but the whole tree leans from the growing pot (versus a bonsai pot) at almost a 45 degree angle. The tree is beautiful, and I can barely wait until spring to focus on it. I am looking a the tree, the whole time thinking "cascade, cascade", but can't seem to find any good examples of a mature cascade-style shimpaku. Do any of you have some picture to post to give me some suggestions? Thanks!

John,
Your tree may well have a potential for a cascade, but also don't forget slant style, or wind-influenced as possibilities.
Remember also that much of the interest and charm in junipers can come from jin and shari.....all of which can add drama to a cascade, slant or wind-influenced. Don't rush to judgement; look at lots of pictures and enjoy many fantasies.......that's the fun of doing bonsai.

Robert-

It's funny you should say that, what I meant to say was that I envisioned the tree as a "windswept" style tree, not a cascade. Not sure why the word cascade came out of my fingertips... I was just not sure of what a windswept shimpaku could/would look like. Also, in regards to deadwood, I have a few trees with that effect on it, and would like to steer clear of that with this tree, unless of course a branch is beggin for it. I have to give the tree what it wants, you know? Seriously though, thanks for your help, and if you see a snapshot of a WINDSWEPT (hey I'm getting the hang of it) shimpaku, let me know. Thanks!

Shimpaku

John: I am over here in the central valley(fresno) and I love Shimpaku junipers. We would be better able to talk about your tree if we could see it.
I have lost track of time and must go to work.
