Canadian Sugar Maple Seedling

Hello Everyone!

This is my first post here after having a good look about through some older posts and it seems like a very knowledgable place.

I'm currently gorwing a Canadian Sugar Maple from seed and i've had quite a bit of success. My seedling has developed its first proper leaves (about a week and a half ago). However about a week ago I noticed that one of the cotyledons had whitened at the end- I didn't take much notice as I thought it was logical that the seed leaves would die off now that the true leaves had formed. However today I noticed that the tip of one of the true leaves is also starting to whiten.

I keep the seedlings in a windowsill (outside) during the day, i'd say they're in direct sunlight for about 4hrs/day. At the moment I tend to water the seedling every day as it seems to dry out quickly.

My other concern is how red the stem has become. But i'm not sure if that's natural as I have no experience ion gorwing trees from seed before.

Any feedback or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Canadian sugar maple are great tree's. However, they do not make good bonsai canadidate since they have huge leaves that dont shrink well.

It is a very cold hardy tree.

The stem changing color is ok. It does that after the woods start to turn hardwood.

As for the white tips, im not sure what it could be...not enough water ? to much sun/wind ?

Thanks for the reply!

As for the leaves- it could well be the sun. It's been quite strong here over the past week and a half. However the next week's due to be a bit more overcast so we'll see how things go!

Thanks very much!
