can a pieris/andromeda bud back

this is my very first post and i really hope there is someone out here that
can answer my question. I've got this pieris for a year now and i know how and when to prune it but i hoped it would bud back?

Will it ever?

Yes it should shoot. I've pruned old scraggly specimens back to stumps and they've grown vigorously. Good Luck

cheers

I have one with a large trunk that isn't budding back at all. Maybe I need to go ahead and take it all the way to the stump?
