Re: Calsium on leaves
Dear Funk,
You may live in an area as I do with very little rainfall during the growing season. I tend to get some of this build up by the end of summer. The beautiful solution comes from the sky! After about the third rain in the winter it all washes away, praise Be! Get that that little funky tree out in the rain brother!!!!!!

Re: Calsium on leaves
Calcium salts sometimes precipitate on the leaves of bonsai in hard water areas. Rain is great because it's soft water and the pH is usually just a touch acidic. If you are in a pinch before a show can't come by any rainfall, you can polish the leaves with a little anti-stress 2000. Now that it's 2002 (nearly) you'd think they'd have something better available.
![]() I've been trying to find a picture that shows the product label I get in the US, but I keep seeing the Aussie concoction, that has a very similar description. It's a milky white solution that you spray on the leaves but it dries glossy and clear. We use it before shows sometimes. The type of stuff the plant handlers use to polish fig tree leaves, leaving them shiny. No actual buffing necessary. It claims to be an 'acrylic copolymer,' but it looks and smells like Elmers glue to me. Don't ask how it tastes ![]() Here's the Australian link. I'll keep an eye out for the other http://www.antistress.com/explain.html Regards, Matt

Re: Calcium on leaves
yes! it looks like they have the same function as the old bottle of Anti Stress 2000 I have. To reduce transpiration and transplant stress.
Reading some of these data sheets it appears that they see good use as to help prevent the loss of moisture from conifers while the roots and soil are frozen... "It was discovered that many indoor plants could survive longer periods without watering by treatment with an anti-transpirant. And ornamentals exposed to excessive warm or cold winds were protected from drying out by spraying with an anti-transpirant. " www.wiltpruf.com I don't know which of the three makes the best shine on a leaf, though ![]() Regards, Matt

Re: Calsium on leaves
Can you buy this stuff at regular nurseries? I've been wanting to try some for spraying on the leaves of newly collected trees. Sometimes collecting season goes into late spring and you really need something like this to prevent transpiration.

Re: Calsium on leaves
Tony,
Yes it is an over the counter item at most nurserys. You will probably find either wilt pruf or cloud cover not likely both. You can buy it online also. http://wiltpruf.com/search.htm
